As an acupuncturist I am interested to read up on any new research on the topic of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. People all over the world with a variety of conditions are greatly helped by acupuncture daily, but in most countries it is still not accepted as a certified and effective treatment method. Since research studies have become the signature of approval in our society , I am happy whenever a new study on acupuncture has been undertaken. Some results are negative , others positive, depending on the parameters used and the specific topic . Most importantly it creates awareness of alternatives within healthcare.

Recently Acupuncture has been in the news talking about its stress relieving benefits.

Myself ,and I am sure fellow practitioners, have all experienced highly stressed patients coming in for a treatment , constantly talking and fidgeting until the needles go in and 5 minutes later they are snoring loudly , fast asleep 😊

Scientists agree that acupuncture does relieve stress but they want to know how.

A new study exploring the biological mechanisms involved in acupuncture´s stress relieveing abilities was recently performed in the US led by Dr. Ladan Eshkevari, an associate professor of nursing at Georgetown University School.

He said the following in a statement to the Journal of Edocrinology:

“Many practitioners of acupuncture have observed that this ancient practice can reduce stress in their patients, but there is a lack of biological proof of how or why this happens. We’re starting to understand what’s going on at the molecular level that helps explain acupuncture’s benefit,”

If you are stressed or suffering from depression there are effective alternatives to anti depressants and other medication. Holistic treatment methods such as acupuncture is one of them. If you would like to know more about how acupuncture can help you specifically do not hesitate to contact me to book an appointment.

Wishing you a nice rest of the week 😊
